PENALTY DRAMA Last minute controversial penalty earns 1-0 victory for Chiefs over Gunners
Mochudi Centre Chiefs snatched a dramatic late victory over Extension Gunners in an FNB Premiership clash at the GU Stadium this Saturday night, edging their opponents 1–0 in a tense and tightly contested encounter. The decisive moment came deep into stoppage time when Thatanyane Resaobaka converted from the penalty spot to hand Magosi all three points and send the home crowd into raptures.
Chiefs had gone into the Christmas break sitting fifth on the log with six wins, six draws and two defeats, giving them 24 points. Extension Gunners, meanwhile, arrived at the fixture anchored at the bottom of the table with just eight points from 14 matches, having managed one win, five draws and eight losses. Despite their struggles, Mapantsola began brightly, dominating possession and repeatedly testing Keoagile Kgosipula’s goal, but they failed to find the breakthrough as both sides went into halftime locked at 0–0.
The second half saw Chiefs push harder in search of the opener, but Extension Gunners continued to look dangerous on the counter. In the 90th minute, drama unfolded when a handball in the box by a Gunners defender saw the referee point to the spot. The decision sparked heated protests from goalkeeper Kamogelo Mogotsi, who pushed the referee and was cautioned for dissent. The match was briefly halted as Mogotsi continued his protests, but once play resumed, Resaobaka stepped up and calmly slotted home the penalty to seal the win.

The result lifted Mochudi Centre Chiefs to fourth place on the log with 27 points, while Extension Gunners remain rooted at the bottom and staring at relegation danger.
