Absa Bank Botswana has reaffirmed its commitment to youth empowerment and sports development through its partnership with the Dinaledi International Football Tournament, one of Botswana’s fastest-growing youth football competitions.

Taking place from 18–20 July 2026, the Dinaledi Football Academy in Oodi will transform into a vibrant arena as over 600 young footballers from more than 30 teams across Botswana, South Africa, Namibia, Zambia, and Zimbabwe converge. These rising stars, competing in age groups from under-9 to under-17, will seize the spotlight to impress coaches, scouts, and football professionals from the region.

Now in its second year, the tournament sets out to elevate youth football standards, foster international competition, and build lasting regional bonds. It opens new pathways for young talent and shines a spotlight on Botswana as a premier destination for international youth football.

Commenting on the tournament, Spencer Moreri, Public and Media Relations Manager at Absa Bank Botswana, said that investing in youth development is central to the Bank’s purpose of empowering Africa’s tomorrow, together, one story at a time.

FUTURE LEADERS: Spencer Moreri of ABSA Bank has hailed the tournament for promoting discipline and opening doors for young athletes to compete beyond our borders

“At Absa, we believe that young people thrive when they are given opportunities to develop their talent, build confidence, and pursue their ambitions. The Dinaledi International Football Tournament is more than a football competition, it is a platform that nurtures future leaders, promotes discipline, and opens doors for young athletes to compete beyond our borders. Through partnerships like this, we continue to invest in Botswana’s youth and contribute to building stronger communities and a brighter future.”

At Absa, this investment extends beyond the tournament itself by strengthening the talent identification programme. It provides international exposure for elite players identified through the 2025 regional scouting initiative while creating new opportunities to discover the next generation of football talent.

Hassan Stoffel, Football Operations Manager at Dinaledi Football Academy said the tournament was established to bridge the gap between talent and opportunity.

“The Dinaledi International Football Tournament was created to give young players the platform they deserve. Every talented child should have the opportunity to compete at a high level, be seen by scouts and coaches, and believe that football can open doors. Beyond the matches, we are developing discipline, leadership, and confidence while contributing to the future of football in Botswana and the region.”

Absa Bank Botswana is the tournament’s strategic partner, supporting the initiative as part of its broader commitment to investing in programmes that create opportunities, empower young people, and enable them to realise their full potential.

Absa continues to empower young people, create meaningful opportunities and contribute to the long term growth of football in Botswana and across Southern Africa.

Over three action-packed days, the tournament is set to draw thousands of fans, showcase more than 40 thrilling matches, and enjoy widespread digital and media attention, further boosting Botswana’s reputation as a hub for youth football in the region.
