TOUGH TALK: Desert Bush Walk organisers warn against trespassing at next Saturday’s event

If you do not have a ticket for this year’s edition of the annual Desert Bush Walk scheduled for Saturday July 27, do not bother go close to the event as you could find yourself facing legal action for trespassing. This is the stern warning from the event organisers, CSI-Concepts Foundation, who recently revealed that there were no more tickets on sale for the event targeting a limited number of only 4 000 participants.

The organisers say because they could not attract enough sponsors for this year’s charity event, they were forced to limit numbers, and all tickets were therefore sold out by June 23. “Therefore we kindly request all individuals who were unable to purchase tickets not to attempt attending the event without a ticket as that would constitute trespassing, and legal action will be taken against offenders,” warns a statement from the Foundation’s board secretary Olivia Nthoi.

THE FULL STATEMENT:

CSI-Concepts FOUNDATION and The Desert Bush Walk Local Organizing Committee (LOC) (Team of Volunteers) would like to inform Great Hikers that due to insufficient sponsorship, we were compelled to limit the number of participants to only 4,000. All tickets for this year’s event have been sold out. Ticket sales closed on June 23rd, 2024.

Therefore, we kindly request all individuals who were unable to purchase tickets not to attempt attending the event without a ticket, as that would constitute trespassing, and legal action will be taken against offenders. As part of our safety and risk management plan, security will be strengthened at the start and finish points, along the route, and at the water points. We are pleased to announce that we have formed a Security Cluster supported by the Botswana Police, Private Security, and other Security Agencies.

Our ticketing partner, Webtickets, will scan tickets at the gates and wrist tags will be used throughout the trail. We urge all ticket holders to ensure they have their tags before the event. We also caution non-ticket holders to exercise caution when purchasing tickets from individuals claiming they are no longer participating. The organizers will not accept any responsibility if thetickets are unscannable at the gate or along the trail.

Lastly, we would like to express our gratitude to all ticket holders for their support and encourage those who were unable to purchase tickets this year to buy early next year to avoid disappointment. We also appreciate their interest in this community service.

CHARITABLE: Several charity organisations have benefitted from the Desert Bush Walk proceeds

The Desert Bush Walk is used to raise funds for charity, as well as to raise awareness about Jwaneng as a tourist destination. The multitudes of people who participate in the walk also do it for health purposes. Several charity organisations have benefitted from the proceeds of the event, among them schools. They have also donated to the Covid-19 National Relief Fund in the past.
