TUNISIA BURDEN Jwaneng Galaxy to play two Tunisian sides in CAF Champions League

Botswana’s representative at the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League, Jwaneng Galaxy, have drawn two sides from Tunisia, Esperance Tunis and  Etoile du Sahel in the group stages of the competition which was decided this Tuesday afternoon at a draw conducted in Cairo, Egypt.

The Botswana side was drawn in Group C alongside Algeria’s CR Belouizdad to complete an all-Arab line of opponents.

Jwaneng Galaxy, having performed relatively well in the previous competition, was drawn directly to the group stages for the first time, where they were in Pot 4 alongside Amazulu of South Africa, Esperanca Sagrada of Angola and Al Merrick of Sudan.

Other teams that have qualified to play in the group stages are Al Ahly (Egypt), Al Hilal (Sudan), CR Belouizdad (Algeria), Esperance (Tunisia), ES Setif (Algeria), Etoile du Sahel (Tunisia), Horoya (Guinea), Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa), Petro Atletico (Angola), Raja (Morocco), Sagrada Esperanca (Angola), Wydad (Morocco) and Zamalek (Egypt).

The draw, which was headlined by Al Ahly and former Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana coach Pitso Mosimane divided the 16 teams that reached the group stage into four groups of four teams each. The mini-league stage will start in February 2022.

Jwaneng Galaxy, along with the three other teams in Pot 4 were drawn against teams from Pot 1, Pot 2 and Pot 3, and from Pot 1, Pitso Mosimane picked Esperance Tunis as opponents to face the diamond mine side. Pot 1 also had Al Ahly, Wydad Casablanca and Raja Casablanca, .

From Pot 2 which included Zamalek, Mamelodi Sundowns, Horoya AC and Etoile du Sahel, Pitso Mosimane picked the latter to face Galaxy. The last group stage opponent for the Botswana side, CR Belouizdad, was drawn from Pot 3 which also had Al Hilal, Petro de Luanda  and ES Sétif.
