DECISION DAY Jwaneng Galaxy await opponents in Tuesday CAF draw
Botswana’s representative at the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League, Jwaneng Galaxy, will know their opponents in the group stages of the competition this Tuesday afternoon when the draw will be conducted in Cairo, Egypt.
Jwaneng Galaxy, having performed relatively well in the previous competition, will be drawn directly to the group stages for the first time, where they are in Pot 4 alongside Amazulu of South Africa, Esperanca Sagrada of Angola and Al Merrick of Sudan. This effectively means that the Jwaneng side will not play against any of these teams in the group stages.
Other teams that have qualified to play in the group stages are Al Ahly (Egypt), Al Hilal (Sudan), CR Belouizdad (Algeria), Esperance (Tunisia), ES Setif (Algeria), Etoile du Sahel (Tunisia), Horoya (Guinea), Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa), Petro Atletico (Angola), Raja (Morocco), Sagrada Esperanca (Angola), Wydad (Morocco) and Zamalek (Egypt).
The draw will divide the 16 teams that reached the group stage into four groups of four teams each. The mini-league stage will start in February 2022.
Jwaneng Galaxy, along with the three other teams in Pot 4 will be drawn against teams from Pot 1, Pot 2 and Pot 3, and Galaxy’s opponents from Pot 1 will be any of Al Ahly, Esperance Tunis, Wydad Casablanca and Raja Casablanca.
From Pot 2, Galaxy can draw any of Zamalek, Mamelodi Sundowns, Horoya AC and Etoile du Sahel. The last group stage opponent for the Botswana side will be drawn from Al Hilal, CR Belouizdad, Petro de Luanda and ES Sétif, who are in Pot 3.
