DESERVED ACCOLADE Mamelodi Crowned with Chairperson’s Award At BFL Awards
Botswana Football League Chief Executive Bennett Mamelodi was honoured with the prestigious Chairperson’s Award at last week’s FNB Premiership Awards, a fitting tribute to the steady hand that has steered Botswana’s top flight back to stability.
Presented by BFL Chairperson Emolemo Kesitilwe, the accolade recognises Mamelodi’s decisive comeback since April 2024, when he returned on a six-month rescue mission. Under his leadership, fixtures ran smoothly, sponsors returned, and broadcasting deals were revived.

A former “Diving Mamelodi” between the posts and a UEFA B license holder trained at Manchester United, Mamelodi swapped playing and diplomatic pursuits for administration in 2011. His tenure has seen landmark partnerships with BTC, Mascom, Debswana and SuperSport.
Humbled by the award, he pledged to share the prize with league staff—an embodiment of his team-first ethos. With a renewed three-year contract secured days earlier, Mamelodi’s vision remains clear: to build on this season’s triumphs and deliver an even brighter future for Botswana football.
