Batswana should prepare to endure a sustained period of increased rainfall over the festive season across the whole country if the latest weather focast from the Department of Meteorological Services (DMS) is anything to go by.

A statement from the department  states that with perhaps the exception of the Kgalagadi district, the country is going to continue experiencing some thundershowers from 23rd to 31st of December 2021.

“However the Kgalagadi district is expected to receive reduced amounts of rainfall as compared to other districts. Temperatures will range from warm to hot (27-35 degrees Celsius) across the country during this period,” the statement reads.

Once again with the exception of Kgalagadi and Gantsi districts, more rains should be expected to continue into the new year with increased intensity, and the nation is cautioned that some areas may experience flooding as was the case recently in some parts of Moshupa village in the Southern district.

“There will be a gradual increase in rainfall intensity over Ngamiland, Chobe, Northeast, Central, Southern, Southeast, Kgatleng and Kweneng districts from 1st January 2022 to 5th January 2022.

The Kgalagadi and Gantsi districts are expected to receive less rainfall as compared to other districts during the first five days of the New Year.”

Due to the continual rainfall over most parts of the country during the festive season, there is possibility of localised flooding in some places, hence the public is advised to take necessary precautions.

“The office will keep monitoring these weather conditions and will update the public accordingly,” the statement concludes.
