FELIX RESTS Long time School Head Felix Mhuriro passes on

LOVING tributes continue to be paid to a much-loved School Head of many years, Felix Mhuriro who died yesterday at Bokamoso Private Hospital in Gaborone.

A close family source  Kabelo Masvingo Kgwrae-Mhuriro wrote earlier today, confirming the news of his passing and appreciated the messages of condolences that have continued to pour throughout the day.

He wrote: “Yesterday our father, brother, friend, mentor and teacher Felix Godfrey Mhuriro passed away at Bokamoso Private hospital in Gaborone. Without doubt we shall continue appreciating his contribution to the education sector of our country which spans for over 50+ years. Many in the public service, politicians, doctors and experts in various fields today are a product of his teachings. An English and Literature genius in his own right. The family continues to receive condolences messages and is thankful for your support. Funeral arrangements will be announced in due time. May our father’s soul rest in eternal peace.”

From the messages that flooded social media today, Mhuriro comes about as a school administrator who was dearly loved by his students and teachers alike. Many professionals reminisced on the days he moulded them into the men and women they are today, describing him as both loving and strict.

“As a student at Moeng College, we had this man as our School Head. Every teacher who spoke English fluently and could play around with words had my admiration. The same goes for this man, Mr Felix Mhuriro. His understanding of the English language was out of this world. Rest in peace Sir,”  Wrote Joseph Gabalebatse, a former student at Moeng College during the days Mhuriro was a School Head. Gabalebatse, now an entrepreneur, has himself been a teacher of English at Kagiso Senior Secondary School.

A teacher who has worked with Mhuriro at Lotsane Senior Secondary School and having been his student in the past,  Gomolemo Rankosha, also had a mouthful to say: “My former School Head Felix Mhuriro rests. Back in the days I had to ask for a quick transfer from Mmaphula Juniour Secondary School which was adjacent to my domicile and went to Palapye Secondary School which was very very far – ke tshaba Mr Mhuriro Felix as that week we had committed an offence and had to be taken to the staffroom. I persuaded Catherine and uncle Ben Rankosha to get me my transfer ko PSS. Then he was my school head in Lotsane Senior until I got promoted to where I am. We loved him so much especially on discipline ya bana. Every parent in Palapye loved his work. May His Soul Rest In Peace.”

 

A former student leader at Lotsane Senior Secondary School, Resego Kgosidintsi, now a renowned political activist, also has fond memories of Mr Mhuriro: “May his dear soul rest in peace,  he was our headteacher in Lotsane and he made boarding school a bit more bearable,” she wrote.

Mookamedi Tabothiwa added: “My Deepest Condolences to the Muhriro Family. This man used to take care of me a laetswe ke my parents when I was a boarding student at Matsha College. As a young fellow far away from home, he was the only family close by in Kang and it helped me settle. Ha dikolo di tswalwao ne a ntatlha ko Palapye a ya Serowe and would pick me up on the same journey back to Kang.”

Funeral arrangements are yet to be finalized, according to the family.
