The Botswana Development Corporation (BDC) has stepped into the creative arena with a bold pilot project to commercialise traditional performance, partnering with Mafitlhakgosi Traditional Dance Group and Eric Ramco Music & Film to produce a professional studio album.

Unveiled at a stakeholder and media briefing, the initiative showcased an extended play (EP) and a live performance by Mafitlhakgosi, signalling a new chapter where cultural heritage meets structured enterprise. The tripartite agreement covers full production, project management, distribution and promotion, with the aim of turning artistry into sustainable business.

BDC Managing Director Oteng Keabetswe said the project reflects the Corporation’s intent to support emerging industries with potential for scale, export and youth participation. “Botswana has the creative talent. What has been missing are the structures that turn that talent into sustainable enterprises and commercially competitive products. This pilot allows us to test a more formal value chain, from production standards to distribution and rights management, with the aim of replicating and scaling it,” he said.
