NEW BROOM BTC Appoints Jurgen Peschel as CEO, Ushering in a New Digital Era

Botswana Telecommunications Corporation (BTC) has named Jurgen Peschel, a seasoned German telecom executive, as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective June 2025. The appointment follows a rigorous global recruitment process.

Peschel brings over 30 years of leadership in telecom, IT, fintech, and digitization across Europe, North America, and Africa. Known for spearheading innovation and driving digital transformation, he played a pivotal role in launching MPesa, the world’s leading mobile payment platform.

His career includes senior roles at Deutsche Telekom, Vodafone, and Digicel, with recent leadership as CEO of 9mobile Nigeria. Peschel’s expertise spans mobile, fixed, and enterprise services, with a focus on customer experience and sustainable growth.

BTC’s Board expressed confidence in Peschel’s ability to lead the corporation into its next phase of innovation and excellence. “We welcome Mr. Peschel and extend our gratitude to Ms. Boitumelo Paya for her capable leadership as Acting CEO,” the statement read.

Paya has held the interim role since Anthony Masunga’s departure in August 2024.
